Award a Construction Contract for the Sidewalk Reconstruction Project (Grids 29, 35, 36, and 42)
RECOMMENDATION:
Recommendation
1. Award bid and authorize the City Manager to execute a construction contract with SNZ Contractors Inc. for the construction of the Sidewalk Replacement (Grids 29, 35, 36, and 42) Project in the amount of $232,155.00 and authorize a 10% contingency in the amount of $23,215.50 (Bid No. DE-24-108-SB).
2. Approve and authorize the City Manager to execute any and all utility agreements, utility easements, and subsequent agreements on behalf of the City of Fontana for Sidewalk Reconstruction Project (Grids 29, 35, 36, and 42).

COUNCIL GOALS:

DISCUSSION:
The City of Fontana’s approved Capital Improvement Program Budget includes the Sidewalk Reconstruction Project (“Project”). This is the first location for the Project and there will be additional contracts forthcoming in the summer of 2024. The proposed improvements include the rehabilitation of existing sidewalk, eliminating the severely damaged conditions. The project will improve walkability, increase sidewalk service life, and enhance the safety of pedestrian traffic.
Bids for this contract were opened on January 18, 2024. A total of eighteen (18) bids were received, ranging from $232,155.00 to $596,000.00. SNZ Contractors Inc. is the lowest bidder in the amount of $232,155.00. The Engineer’s estimate was $250,000.00. After reviewing the proposed bid documents and performing reference checks, the Engineering staff has determined SNZ Contractors Inc. to be the lowest responsible and responsive bidder.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The fiscal impact associated with the approval of this item is $232,155.00 for the full term of the construction contract and $23,215.50 for construction contingency. These amounts are included in the 2023-24 available budget, in 37600001-601-A-8330 and 37600001-601-A-8331 respectively.
