DISCUSSION:
The City determined the need for new conduit and fiber to be installed in specific areas of the City to connect Veterans Park and Jack Bulik Park to our central Police Station, Traffic Management Center (TMC), and Information Technology programs and systems.
BB&K, the City’s legal counsel, reviewed and approved the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) eligibility of the Fiber to City Parks project under Federal Use Category 5.0 Infrastructure subsection 5.21 Broadband-Other. This project is included as part of the council approved ARPA expenditure plan utilizing ARPA funds received from the U.S.Department of Treasury, under the Water, Sewer, and Broadband Infrastructure Federal Use Category, to expand the City’s existing broadband infrastructure. The improvements consist of installing fiber optic cable, conduit, splice vaults, and splice canisters to obtain one continuous run. Once completed, the project will create dedicated fiber optic lines to Jack Bulik and Veterans Parks, providing stronger and more reliable bandwidth, promoting safety within the public facilities, and increase responsiveness from local emergency responders.
