DISCUSSION:

On June 13, 2023, the City Council awarded the Design-Build Contract for the Downtown Parking Structure Project to Bomel Construction Company, Inc. The proposed project is currently being constructed within the existing parking lot of the City’s Human Resources Department Building located at 8491 Sierra Avenue, Fontana, CA 92335, and shall consist of a 4.5-tier parking structure that will include the addition of 321 parking stalls. The intent of the structure is to serve as both public and employee parking for the civic campus, as well as the planned downtown area which is to be revitalized. Completion of the project is anticipated in January 2025.

An increase in city-owned contingency is requested to fund unforeseen conditions encountered throughout the course of construction. It will also afford the opportunity to add improved enhancements with the endeavor to create harmony with the structure and surrounding architecture.

FISCAL IMPACT:

The fiscal impact associated with the approval of this item is $800,000.00 and is included in the current FY 2024-25 budget in Capital Reinvestment Fund (Fund 601), Downtown Parking Structure Project (Project No. 37600035).

MOTION:

Approve staff recommendation.
