The City of Fontana has determined Homelessness and Homeless prevention as a top priority and has previously instructed staff to take all feasible actions in support of the City’s homelessness prevention plan.

On July 23, 2024, the City adopted Resolution No. 2024-101, the Homeless Solutions Action Plan. The Plan aims to increase affordable housing options in the City, while coordinating services to offer holistic support to the homeless community, including but not limited to mental health and substance-abuse treatment, job training, and healthcare. The Plan enhances coordination efforts, expanding the City’s reach of homeless services while fostering collaborative partnerships across the community.

On September 21, 2021, the County Board of Supervisors approved the Board of Supervisors Discretionary Fund. This District Specific Priorities Program allocates funds to each of the five districts in San Bernardino County to provide services to citizens that promote health, safety, economic well-being, education, recreation, and other public services that enhance quality of life, and meet the needs of the County’s citizens.

The Priorities Program desires to provide funding in the amount of $600,000 to the City of Fontana to assist in the performance of homeless support services, including case management for a period of 12 months. As a part of this agreement, The City will retain a third-party vendor to assist with the management of homeless services and retain the services of a third-party vendor to provide case management services for homeless individuals. The funding provides social service needs and serves the County residents of Fontana and the surrounding communities of the Second District.
