COUNCIL GOALS:

•                     Improve public safety by increasing operational efficiency, visibility and availability.

•                     Practice sound fiscal management by living within our means while investing in the future.

DISCUSSION:

The Public Works/Engineering Department is responsible for maintaining and replacing a total of five hundred and six (506) vehicles, which include both city and police vehicles. The police fleet consists of seventy-two (72) utility patrol units. The Support Services Division replaces about twenty (20) patrol units each year. This contract will enable the city to purchase windshields, door glass and  panels. Dana Safety will install these components on-site for all new patrol units that are purchased.

Dana Safety, Inc. was awarded a contract (25-05-0829) from the North Carolina Sheriff’s Association in September 2024 for Vehicle Equipment and Uplifting Procurement Program. The program is open not only to sheriff’s offices, but to any county and or city agency. The Fontana Police Department, along with the city’s Support Services Division, has determined that this product and service is an essential addition to the vehicle emergency equipment installation process, ensuring officer safety.

FISCAL IMPACT:

The annual fiscal impact for outfitting pursuit vehicles is estimated at $267,000. The fiscal impact associated with the approval of this item will be included in the next Quarterly Budget Adjustment, requested from the General Fund.
