COUNCIL GOALS:

•                     To invest in the City’s infrastructure (streets, sewers, parks, etc.) by maintaining and improving the city's existing infrastructure.

•                     To invest in the City’s infrastructure (streets, sewers, parks, etc.) by providing for the development of new infrastructure.

•                     To invest in the City’s infrastructure (streets, sewers, parks, etc.) by focusing on relief of traffic congestion.

DISCUSSION:

On February 27, 2024, the City Council authorized the award of a construction contract to the lowest responsible/responsive bidder (Matich Corporation) in the amount of $1,306,547.00 with a 10% contingency in the amount of $130,654.70 for the Southridge Grid 53 Pavement Rehabilitation Project (PN 37600061).  The proposed improvement for the Southridge Grid 53 Pavement Rehabilitation Project consisted of the mill and overlay of existing asphalt pavement and upgrading existing curb ramps to meet ADA compliance from Citrus Avenue to Cypress Avenue and from the SCE easement to Jurupa Hills.  The improvement will ultimately prolong the life of the streets within the project limits.

Matich Corporation completed the project on October 24, 2024.  The project was successfully completed for the final amount of $1,222,006.55, a decrease of 6.5% from the original contract amount of $1,306,547.00 and $215,195.15 under the total authorized budget.  All work has been completed to the satisfaction of the City of Fontana.

FISCAL IMPACT:

As part of the action to accept the construction of the Southridge Grid 53 Pavement Rehabilitation Project (#37600061) as complete, the City will take over the operation and maintenance of this public infrastructure. Appropriate funding for the maintenance work is included in the FY 2024-25 budget under the Public Works & Engineering Department, Utilities and Streets Division.

MOTION:
