DISCUSSION:
On August 11, the City awarded a contract in the amount of $74,290.59 to Gentry General Engineering for the Emergency Repair of the Storm Structure at Valley and Poplar.
As part of the City’s ongoing efforts to identify, repair, and maintain storm drain infrastructure, this storm structure failure was discovered during the CCTV (Closed Circuit Television) assessments currently being conducted citywide. Upon discovery, the Public Works Utilities Division deemed the repair an emergency and proceeded to obtain quotes immediately to expedite the work. Due to the critical nature of the situation, the City requested immediate mobilization and commencement of construction once contracts were signed.
Following the initial assessment, it was determined that approximately 55 feet of the storm structure had failed and required reconstruction. However, once the roadway was opened, unforeseen conditions revealed that an additional 30 feet of the structure had also failed, which was not visible during the earlier assessment. This additional work required a contract change order in the amount of $40,522.13, bringing the total contract to $114,812.72.
Gentry General Engineering has completed all work to the satisfaction of the City. Timely completion and coordination were essential to minimize disruptions and restoring proper drainage and roadway function.
