COUNCIL GOALS:
• To improve public safety by maximizing fire and emergency medical service resources.
• To improve public safety by minimizing impacts from disasters through emergency and disaster preparedness.
• To invest in the City’s infrastructure (streets, sewers, parks, etc.) by maintaining and improving the city's existing infrastructure.
DISCUSSION:
Fire Training Facility/Fire Station No. 80 is a priority one project that involves the construction of a new fire training facility and a new fire station at the northern edge of the City limits. The proposed site is located on the northeast corner of Cherry Avenue and Highland Avenue. The new fire training facility is needed for ongoing education and training of fire personnel and the new fire station is needed to improve response times in the northwesterly area of the City. The proposed new fire station will help meet the goal of response times that are less than five minutes within the District, 90 percent of the time. The project will be delivered in two phases with the first phase consisting of the Fire Training Facility and the second future phase consisting of Fire Station No. 80.
On February 23, 2021, the Fire Protection District approved the Professional Services Agreement with WLC Architects (“WLC”) in the amount of $529,000.00 for the Fire Training Facility/Fire Station 80 Project. WLC has since changed their firm name to PBK Architects (“PBK”).
This Amendment No. 1, in the amount of $29,800.00, will increase the contract total to $558,800.00. Amendment No. 1 will permit PBK to perform the additional scope changes to the Phase 1 design of the project. These scope changes incorporate design changes related to Fontana Water Company facilities and off-site improvements on Cherry Avenue.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The fiscal impact associated with the approval of this item is $29,800.00 and is included in the current FY 2025/2026 Budget in the Fire Station No. 80 Project - No. 37603385-610-A-8113.
MOTION:
Approve staff recommendation.
