SUBJECT:

Title

Award a Contract for the Demolition of Seville Park Amphitheater

End

RECOMMENDATION:

Recommendation

Authorize the City Manager to execute a CUCCAC contract PW-26-11-CC with Wreck Age Demolition Inc. in the amount of $49,800.00 with a 10% contingency in the amount of $4,980.00 for the demolition of Seville Park Amphitheater.

End

COUNCIL GOALS:

To invest in the City’s infrastructure (streets, sewers, parks, etc.) by providing for the development of new infrastructure.

DISCUSSION:

The Seville Park Amphitheater, located within Seville Park at 16601 Seville Avenue, has historically served as a venue for City-sponsored events and facility rentals. Through time, the structure has experienced significant deterioration and is no longer in a condition suitable for public use. In addition, the site has experienced unauthorized use, contributing to safety concerns for park visitors and the surrounding neighborhood. As a result, the amphitheater is now considered beyond feasible repair.

Following a comprehensive assessment, City staff have determined that demolition of the amphitheater is the most appropriate course of action. This will allow for the redevelopment of the site to accommodate new recreational amenities, specifically the design and construction of much requested pickleball courts.

In accordance with the California Uniform Public Construction Cost Accounting Act (CUCCAC), the City will be awarding the demolition contract PW-26-11-CC to Wreck Age Demolition Inc. based in Chino Hills, California.

Staff recommends proceeding with the demolition to enable timely planning and implementation of the proposed park improvements.

FISCAL IMPACT:

The total fiscal impact associated with the approval of this item is $54,780.00. Funds for this project are budgeted in the current FY 2025/2026 Budget in the Pickleball Court Project #37600092, Fund 604 - Capital TUT

MOTION:

Approve staff recommendation.
