COUNCIL GOALS:

Practice sound fiscal management by living within our means while investing in the future.

Concentrate on Inter-governmental relations by pursuing financial participation from county, state and federal governments.

Enhance the local environment for future generations and create a healthy economic and environmental future by encouraging conservation, waste reduction, and recycling in the community.

DISCUSSION:

The proposed Resolution updates and renews the City of Fontana’s existing authorization to participate in the Tire Cleanup (TCU) Grant Program, which supports ongoing efforts to address illegal dumping of waste tires throughout the community. This action does not represent a new grant application, but rather ensures continuity of the City’s eligibility to receive reimbursement funding for eligible activities.

Illegal tire disposal continues to present environmental, public health, and safety concerns, including fire hazards. City staff routinely respond to and remediate illegal dumping sites; therefore, maintaining an active and current resolution is necessary to support uninterrupted program participation and funding reimbursement.

Through adoption of this Resolution, the City reaffirms its authorization to utilize available funds for essential program-related expenses, including personal protective equipment (PPE) such as high-visibility vests/jackets, safety glasses, gloves, and steel-toed footwear. These resources are critical to ensuring compliance with workplace safety standards and protecting staff from hazards encountered during cleanup operations.

Renewal of this Resolution allows the City to continue these services without disruption. Additionally, continued participation aligns with the City’s goals of maintaining clean and safe public spaces, improving environmental quality, and reducing illegal dumping through proactive public works and code enforcement efforts.

FISCAL IMPACT:

No fiscal impact for approval of the resolution.
