Accept as complete the work performed by Jergensen Construction, Inc. for the construction of the First Responders Memorial Monument Project (No. 37600009).

COUNCIL GOALS:

DISCUSSION:
On March 11, 2025, the City Council awarded a construction contract to Jergensen Construction, Inc. in the amount of $1,209,000.00 and authorized a contingency amount of $120,900.00, for a total contract authorization amount of $1,329,900.00 for the construction of the First Responders Memorial Monument Project.
The monument is located along Sierra Avenue adjacent to the existing Development Services Building within the Civic Center Campus. The monument features a beam from the World Trade Center debris, specifically Tower 2, and incorporates different materials and symbolism from the 9/11 Memorial in New York. While the monument honors all affected by the 9/11 tragedy, the Fontana monument was specifically designed to emphasize all First Responders within San Bernardino County and their daily commitment and sacrifice for the community. The monument features the badge images from each Fire Agency and Law Enforcement Agency within San Bernardino County and honors by name Fallen Heroes from each agency.
Construction began on June 9, 2025, and was deemed complete on July 9, 2026. The project was completed for the final amount of $1,284,439.63, a decrease of 3.4% from the original total contract authorization.
FISCAL IMPACT:
With acceptance of the First Responders Memorial Monument Project (No. 37600009) as complete, the City will assume maintenance of the monument. Funding for these activities is included in the FY 2026-27 budget under Public Works & Engineering, Parks and Landscape Division.
