COUNCIL GOALS:

Improve public safety by increasing operational efficiency, visibility and availability.

DISCUSSION:

In accordance with the San Bernardino County Transportation Authority’s (SBCTA) Long Range Multimodal Transportation Plan, the City of Fontana has identified a need for improved transit options along key corridors, including Foothill Blvd, Sierra Ave, and San Bernardino Ave, based on high ridership data and strategic community planning priorities. Enhancements in these areas will contribute to increased accessibility, user comfort, and transit reliability for both residents and commuters.

The proposed letter, to be signed by Mayor Acquanetta Warren, will convey the City’s commitment to collaborating with OmniTrans and SBCTA in implementing bus stop improvements, including upgrades to shelters, seating, lighting, signage, and off-board fare payment stations. Additionally, the letter supports increased transit frequency and exploring transit signal priority along these corridors. A copy of the letter will be sent to OmniTrans and SBCTA.

FISCAL IMPACT:

There is no immediate fiscal impact associated with authorizing the letter. Any future expenditures related to specific transit projects will be reviewed and brought before the Council as necessary.

MOTION:

Approve staff recommendation.
