COUNCIL GOALS:

•                     Enhance the local environment for future generations and create a healthy economic and environmental future by committing to purchasing specific products and goods that are climate friendly.

DISCUSSION:

The city was awarded $230,640 under the EECBG program. Staff proposes allocating the funds to the following projects:

1.                     Municipal Facility Energy Upgrades: Retrofitting lighting, HVAC systems, and other energy-intensive components in city-owned buildings.

2.                     Renewable Energy Projects: Expanding the installation of solar panels and infrastructure at municipal facilities.

These projects are consistent with the City’s goals of reducing operational costs, minimizing greenhouse gas emissions, and promoting energy independence.

Grant acceptance is required to proceed with these projects. Staff will ensure compliance with all reporting and regulatory requirements as mandated by the U.S. Department of Energy.

FISCAL IMPACT:

The fiscal impact associated with the approval of this item is an increase in Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) Project #37300005, Grant Fund 301 in the amount of $230,640. The awarded grant funds will fully cover the costs of the proposed projects. No additional General Fund allocations are required. The required budget adjustments will be included in the Mid-Year Budget Status Report.

MOTION:

Approve staff recommendation.
