SUBJECT:

Title

Authorization to Donate Computer Equipment to the Affordable Housing - Paseo Verde Apartments Community Computer Lab

End

RECOMMENDATION:

Recommendation

Adopt Resolution No. 2025-102, authorizing the donation of surplus computer equipment-ten (10) desktop computers and ten (10) monitors-to the community computer lab at the Affordable Housing - Paseo Verde Apartments and authorizing the City Manager or designee to execute any documents necessary to complete the transfer.

End

COUNCIL GOALS:

Increase citizen involvement by utilizing technology to promote communication and linkages in the community.

DISCUSSION:

The Innovation and Technology (IT) Department has identified ten computers and ten monitors that have exceeded their useful life within the City’s computing environment and are scheduled for disposal through auction. Staff recommends donating this equipment instead to the Paseo Verde Apartments community computer lab, where it will provide residents-many of whom do not have computers at home-access to updated equipment for schoolwork, job searches, and essential online services.

The equipment will be transferred to the Paseo Verde Apartments community computer lab (“Center”). The Center will assume responsibility for installation, maintenance, software licensing, internet connectivity, and ongoing technical support. Following the transfer, the City shall have no responsibility for operation, upkeep, or future replacement of the donated equipment.

This donation supports digital inclusion and access to essential services for residents, aligns with community engagement goals, and provides a higher public benefit than auctioning minimal-value equipment.

FISCAL IMPACT:

There is no fiscal impact associated with the donation. The equipment has no remaining book value and would otherwise be auctioned. All ongoing costs (maintenance, support, software, and connectivity) will be borne by the recipient.

MOTION:

Approve staff recommendation.
