RECOMMENDATION:

Recommendation

Accept as complete the work performed by Dash Construction Company, Inc. for the Rose Avenue Pavement Rehabilitation Project.

COUNCIL GOALS:

                     To invest in the City’s infrastructure (streets, sewers, parks, etc.) by maintaining and improving the city's existing infrastructure.

                     To invest in the City’s infrastructure (streets, sewers, parks, etc.) by providing for the development of new infrastructure.

                     To invest in the City’s infrastructure (streets, sewers, parks, etc.) by focusing on relief of traffic congestion.

 

DISCUSSION:

On February 27, 2024, the City Council authorized the award of a construction contract to the lowest responsive and responsible bidder (Dash Construction Company, Inc.) in the amount of $217,777.00 with a 10% contingency of $21,777.70 for the Rose Avenue Pavement Rehabilitation Project (PN37600013).  The proposed improvements for the Rose Avenue Pavement Rehabilitation Project consisted of the full depth removal and replacement of the existing asphalt pavement, drive approach and cross gutter repair, and curb and gutter replacement.

 

Dash Construction Company, Inc. completed the project on February 13, 2025.  The project was successfully completed for the final amount of $239,374.00, an increase of 9.9% from the original contract amount of $217,777.00 and $180.70 under the total authorized budget.  All work has been completed to the satisfaction of the City of Fontana.

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

As part of the action to accept the construction of the Rose Avenue Pavement Rehabilitation Project as complete, the City will take over the operation and maintenance of this public infrastructure.  Appropriate funding for the maintenance work is included in the FY 2024-25 revised budget under the Public Works Department,  Utilities and Streets Division.
