RECOMMENDATION:

Recommendation

Authorize the City Manager to approve Change Order #2 with Western State Builders, Inc. in the amount of $147,153.37 for the Demolition of Existing Concrete Pad, Installation of New Concrete Pad and Walkway at North Tamarind Park Project (SB-116-PW-23).

COUNCIL GOALS:

DISCUSSION:

On June 13, 2023, the City Council awarded a construction contract to Western State Builders, Inc. in the amount of $249,229.00 for the purchase and installation of three (3) Metal Picnic Shelters and authorized a 10% contingency in the amount of $24,923.00. One (1) picnic shelter was to be installed at Miller Park and the other two (2) picnic shelters would be installed North Tamarind Park.

In November 2023, Change Order No. 1 was executed to delete the purchase and installation of the picnic shelter at Miller Park to minimize areas of potential homeless gathering. This Change Order resulted in a net contract decrease of $84,884.00.

 

Change Order #2 in the amount of $147,153.37 adds the demolition and removal of the existing picnic gazebo at North Tamarind Park, which was not part of the original project scope of work when the bid was issued. Additionally, this change order covers the installation of new concrete pads and walkways, and the demolition and replacement of deteriorated concrete walkways to ensure compliance with ADA standards and path of travel requirements. These additional contract additions were deemed necessary after the contract was awarded to ensure the overall success of the project.

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

The total contract amount, after incorporating the approved Contract Change Orders, is $311,498.37. The original 10% contingency remains $24,923.00. Following this adjustment, the fiscal impact related to the approval of this change order is $62,269.37, which is available in FY25/26 in project strings 37200005-302-O-8313 and 37200005-302-P-8313.
